Preschool Spring chicks

Want something SUPER easy to do with your toddler this weekend? You have to try these preschool Spring chicks. Set up is super simple - just grab a piece of card stock and draw three chick silhouettes (which isn't even actually a silhouette...just a circle head with a bigger circle body underneath.)

Have your child sponge yellow paint all around the circles.

Once the chicks are dry, spread glue all over the head and let them stick eyes and a beak on their chicks! You could also have them draw on the eyes and beaks, but my daughter's fine motor skills are definitely not there, if you know what I mean.

After the faces are attached, have your kiddo draw on the legs! Lastly, use some green paint with a new sponge to give the little chicks some grass.

This project was so easy, and cleanup was a cinch - just toss out the paper towel of paint and rinse the sponge!

Have you tried this project? Please link me to a picture in the comments below!

Junior Kindergarten - Spring Chicks (Easter)

This project is so sweet it kills me.I first saw these spring chicks here, and decided to give them a try with my junior kindergartens. I just LOVE how they turned out!!

This project took two separate days to complete. On day one, students sponged yellow tempera paint to make the chicks bodies on blue paper. The next day, students used black Sharpie to make legs and eyes, and orange marker to make beaks and hair.

I showed students how to make their chicks look in different directions. Some chose to make their chicks all looking forward, some chose to have them all looking up, and some just had them looking wherever!

They're just sooooooooooooo cute!

Easter bunny buddies - junior kindergarten

Just a quick post on an adorable project that I did last year and loved so much that I had to do it again! It's very simple, straightforward, and user friendly for junior kindergarten aged kids. And, I LOVE the results!!

I am currently working on many home projects, including working on a separate house-only blog that I'll be getting up and running soon (but not to worry - I'll still post my house updates here as well!)

Bunny buddies - Pre-Kindergarten (JK)

Here's a cute little lesson I just did with my pre-kindergarten kids. They weren't too complicated, but the students did benefit from repeated reminders of the instructions. They had to draw the bunny head on a piece of folded 8.5 x 11. To draw the head, they just drew a "rainbow" shape, then drew two ears coming out of it. It didn't matter that there were pencil lines all over, because they just glued the bad side down afterward. They glued on pre-cut teeth, and used Sharpie and pink marker to color in the details. Pretty cute!

Junior Kindergarten (Pre-K) Valentines

I see my pre-K's once every two weeks, so I had to come up with a simple Valentine's Day craft that I could do with almost twenty 4 year olds in under an hour. I found this craft online, and it definitely fit my criteria! I love the way they turned out (especially the upside down message!)

Check out the curly whiskers - SO CUTE!

Peeking polar bear art - Junior Kindergarten

Cute, one hour art project I did with Junior Kindergarten students! I saw something similar to this idea on Pinterest, but I cant seem to find it again - I find Pinterest's search feature can be really unreliable... anyone else have this problem? Once I dig it up, I'll edit this post.

Basically, students drew the bear using Sharpie. They painted a separate piece of paper with cool colored Tempera pucks, then cut out the bear and glued them on (the tempera paint takes about 10 minutes to dry, so we did it all in one period!) When they were done, they used crayons to draw snowflakes (which to me look like fireworks!)
LOVE THE TEETH!

Junior Kindergarten - Adorable grinning pumpkin art

I am REALLY enjoying teaching junior kindergarten art! The kids are so good at following directions, and pretty much everything they do turns out adorably. This project was great, save for the fact that we weren't all able to finish (some paintings weren't dry within the one hour period, so we couldn't glue on the teeth and eyes.)

Enjoy these pumpkins, inspired by artsy_t on flickr!

Junior kindergarten birds

This is the first project I did with a junior kindergarten class (3 and 4 years old!) and I am SO happy with how it turned out.
To do these birds, we did a group draw (I did about 4 or 5 at a time, while the others played.) They drew right away in Sharpie, since you can't be too picky with kids so young.

Then they moved right over to watercolor painting! Since it was my first time with them, I just let them paint however they wanted, with whichever colors. They did a great job!

The next day, I cut them out, and had some of my grade 5 students glue them to colored paper. I'm so proud of the kids for this one!
