Classroom Pinterest boards - updated

About a week ago, I posted my classroom Pinterest boards. My pictures unfortunately weren't the best, so I thought I'd post some updated pictures now! The boards have also been more filled up, and I reprinted the sign MUCH bigger!
Here's a closeup of the sign - I just printed it off of here. I split the logo into 4 separate pages on Photoshop, color printed them and glued them together.
Here's some examples of some of the things students have been putting up:

There's still a few kids who haven't put anything up yet - I just say they are like the people who sign up for Pinterest but forget to ever pin things.  Other than the few though, the kids are really loving them!

My grade 5/6 Living Pinterest Boards

So for the new year, I decided to do something fun with my bulletin board space - give each of my students their own Living Pinterest board! I am a HUGE fan of Pinterest, and find most of my ideas there. I thought it would be nice if the students had some place to put their favorite work, pictures, drawings, etc. I explained to them what Pinterest was, and told them how I love it for pinning my favorite ideas, and showing things that I have done that I am proud of.

It's only been up for 4 days, but a lot of them are really enjoying it! I will take some better pictures once the board is a bit fuller, but I was too excited to share the idea to wait! I love our Living Pinterest Boards! I wish I had enough space to make one for me!

Christmas themed door

I can't help myself. Christmas is my favorite time of year, and with about 4 and a half weeks to go, I feel it's only appropriate that I start decorating my classroom.

Here is how I decorated one of my doors, using an idea I found here.
I just need some kind of clever title to put above the reindeer.

La fin - Homemade art shelf part TWO

Sooo my art shelf is all finished!

First of all, if you don't remember art shelf part 1, please refer to this post.

Basically where I left off, everything was done except for the top, caulking, painting, the siding for the back, and moving it into my classroom.

The first thing that I needed to do was go to Home Depot and get paint.

Simple, right?

Obviously you've never been out with me.

Apologies to Home Depot for this one.

Anyway. Let's move past that, shall we?

The first thing I had to do was caulk the cracks in all the corners. If you haven't used caulking, it's FUN. Really, it's super satisfying, it's like playdoh mixed with glue and it makes everything pretty. It's awesome.
Then I had to paint the wainscoting that I bought for the back pieces.
While I waited for Cody to come cut the wainscoting, I started painting!
 And painting.
Then Cody began attaching the back panels. While I painted.
 And painted.
 And then.. it was DONE!
I absolutely adore it. It reminds me of Cape Cod, and I feel so happy everytime I see it. Especially when you know what shelf it's replacing.
See? This is what my art supplies were stored on before.
 And here they are now!
Huge thanks to Cody for all of the help with this project. I am not confident with power tools yet, so he did all of the hard work while I held things and used Gorilla Glue and made sound effects (read: eeee ee ee e ee oooh ooh ahh ahh.)

Aaaaaaaaaand that's it!

My classroom!

I'm finally done setting up my room for the year! I am really pleased with how it turned out, so I thought I would share.

First, a few stats on my classroom:
  • Grade 5/6 split
  • French immersion
  • 30 students
  • 22 of them I had last year, 8 are from another class
This is the view when you walk into my classroom:Class store, banner, etc.:Art mural that my students made last year:
Our library/reading area (last year my students and I painted and assembled that chair as a group) Those cords will be staple gunned to the wall by Friday: A small part of my library:
This is the other side of the library, my desk:
More of my desk (it will never be this clean again):
What I see when I'm sitting at my desk:
Students desks (some of them):
Closeup of the mural on the board (will do another one beside it with this years class):
Past my desk, more books:
Sink area:
The game I made for them to play when they've finished their homework for the week (called Meadow-Land, obviously after Candy Land):

Where I sit and teach:
The view from my black bench:

And that's it! It's a great room, a great space, and I can't wait to fill it up with kiddies in a few days!!

Take care,
aly
